Alexa Studios in Owego is proud to announce our new Photography classes. Our courses are geared for beginners and advanced photographers alike. These classes will benefit anyone, from the new point and shoot user to the professional photographer.

If you do not see a class which suits your needs, please let us know, we would be happy to do a custom designed class just for you. The fee for a custom class is based on the ‘Advanced Class’ (see below), there is no additional fee, unless your needs extend beyond the 2 classes offered.

Our instructor has over 28+ years photography experience and uses simple and easy to understand language to guide you through the learning process, while still learning at your own pace.

ALL NEW – Photoshop (includes Photoshop Elements) 2 Classes

Pre-requisite: Own copy of Photoshop, any version

Bring: Laptop with Photoshop installed, pen and pad, images to work on

Cost: $260.00

Length of class: 2 hours – 2 classes with a total of 4 hours. Classes may be broken up into 4 – 1 hour classes

Description: This course will get you started with Photoshop and teach you how to resize, color correct, adjust levels, curves, etc. If you have basic knowledge, this course will be more advanced. Please discuss your needs with me prior to scheduling.

This course will run approximately 2 hours, 2 classes with a total of 4 hours. Classes may be broken up into 4 – 1 hour classes.

Photoshop – 2 classes

Beginners – Point and Shoot cameras ONLY – 1 Class

Type of Camera: Point & Shoot ONLY

Bring: Camera and it’s manual, pen and pad

Cost: $45.00

Length of class: 1 hour

Description: This course should really be called ‘How to use your new point and shoot camera’. This is a very basic class and very little actual photography will be covered. You will learn what all those little symbols and buttons are on your new point and shoot (P&S) camera and also how to take a better picture in auto mode. Even when shooting in auto modes, there are little tricks to learn which will help you to produce better results. Composition will also be covered.

Beginner’s P&S ONLY – 1 class

Beginners P&S and DSLR – 1 Class

Type of Camera: Point & Shoot (with manual mode) or DSLR

Bring: Camera and it’s manual, pen and pad

Cost: $65.00

Length of class: 1 1/2 hours

Description: This course will cover basic photography, including shutter speed, F stop and ISO settings and how they relate to each other, forming the exposure triangle. Learning how to shoot in manual mode is the main subject in this course.

The best times to shoot and composition will also be covered.

If you are using a point and shoot camera and only wish to improve your shooting skills in auto mode, or learn how your camera works, please refer to the above course ‘Beginners Point and Shoot ONLY’.

If you own a point and shoot camera and wish to take this course to further improve your skills, please make sure your camera is capable of shooting in manual mode.

Beginner’s DSLR and P&S – 1 class

Advanced – 2 Classes

Type of Camera: DSLR

Pre-requisite: Beginners course above or a good working knowledge of the exposure triangle.

Bring: Camera, manual, pen and pad

Cost: $125.00

Length of class: 1 1/2 hours

Description: The tips and tricks of the exposure triangle and how to see, use and manipulate natural lighting is the main topic. We will also cover composition and how and when to use the Rule of Thirds. Understanding slow shutter speed and night shooting will also be discussed and practiced.

If you have a true understanding of the exposure triangle, this may be your next step.

A model may be available during the 2nd class and outdoor shooting will be covered, weather permitting.

How to shoot and how to handle raw images will also be covered in this advanced course. Full post processing of the raw file will not be covered.

The first session will be held partly indoors and some outdoors, weather permitting. The 2nd class will be held outdoors, weather permitting. The outdoor class may be rescheduled due to inclement weather.

Advanced – 2 classes

External Flash/Strobes – 2 Classes (with a Model)

Pre-requisite: A good handle on shooting in the Manual Mode of your camera

Type of Camera: DSLR

Bring: Camera, lens, external flash, camera manual and flash manual, pen and pad

Cost: $145.00

Length of class: 1 1/2 hours

Description: Using an external flash (or studio strobe) is very confusing to many, so the flash is avoided. Don’t let fear keep you from improving your photography skills. This course will teach you how to use an external flash in manual mode and explain how the TTL mode works, if you own a flash with TTL.

The first class is indoors and the 2nd class is outdoors with a model. If there is inclement weather, the 2nd class may be rescheduled.

External Flash w/model 2 classes

Other Info Please Read:

1. Custom classes are available. If you understand the exposure triangle and know how to use a flash/strobe, you may request a custom class for things such as, but not limited to, high speed photography (water, etc), light painting, long exposures or any area causing you to lose sleep. If you choose high speed photography you will be able to use our high speed strobes which also offer a stroboscopic effect.

2. Drinks and snacks allowed.

3. Any minor under the age of 18 should be accompanied by an adult, or we will allow permission over the phone with a note from a parent or guardian. A personal free consultation prior to class with written permission will also be allowed. Please notify us when ordering your course. Thank you.

4. Please bring a pad and pen to all classes.

5. NO refund if you cancel your class within 24 hours prior to the start date and time. If we find it necessary to reschedule a class for any reason, your money will carry over to the new date and time. If you are unable to make the new date and time, a refund will be issued or you may use the money to book another course, any difference in price will be refunded.

6. Payment accepted via Paypal, if you need other payment arrangements, please contact us. All monies MUST be received before your class begins.

7. You may change the date or time via email on any class. We try our best  to accommodate YOUR needs!

8. After your purchase is made, you will receive a confirmation email with instructions and directions. If you do not receive this, please let us know by using the contact link on this site.
